The Petzl Grigri is a self-braking belay descender device. Please note: while the Grigri is self-braking it is not autolocking so be vigilante when you are using it! The Grigri's self-braking mechanism helps the belayer catch and hold the climber in the event of a fall. However, it is important to remember: the belayer, not the belay device, plays the primary role in dynamic belaying. If the rope suddenly comes under tension the Grigri cam pivots to pinch the rope - stopping the fall. The Grigri is only compatible with single dynamic ropes (rated to CE EN 892) and between 10-11 mm in diameter.
