Waikato Institute of Technology is based in the Hamilton Gardens and offers a Diploma in Arboriculture (Level 6) which combines theoretical classroom work with practical hands-on learning. This is the highest arboricultural qualification available in New Zealand. Wintec has strong relationships in Europe, USA and the UK and their qualification is bench marked against international standards.

Otago Polytechnic provides a Certificate in Arboriculture (Level 4). The programme teaches a wide range of practical arboricultural skills: pruning, felling, transplanting and maintaining the health of trees. Based in Dunedin.
