The Yale Wire Basket Fid is designed to make splicing 12-strand hollow strand braids like Yale Brace, Tenex or Amsteel Blue very simple. The unique stainless steel wire basket on the end of the anodized aluminum fid works on the same principle as a Chinese finger trap. Use your fingers to bunch up the wire basket, insert the rope into the hole you have produced and pull - the wire basket closes around the rope. Now you can easily complete the splice and bury. When you have finished the splice and bury simply bunch up the wire basket again to release the rope. This is the simplest tool available for splicing 12-strand hollow braids up to 5/8 inch (14 mm) in diameter. Comes complete with a hard plastic cover to keep the fid secure.
